Life’s day-to-day minutiae are often so absorbing that we lose track of the bigger scheme of things as, since time is money we struggle to be on time, to beat the clock and meet dead-lines within the 9-5 daily rota.
This is nested within the Mon-Fri work-week, which lives within a yearly Gregorian Catholic calendar decreed in 1582, which has no relationship to the the natural cycle of the seasons.
The inherent anxiety of a life dominated by ‘clock time' is expressed in this Haruki Murakami quote:
Unfortunately, the clock is ticking, the hours are going by. The past
increases, the future recedes. Possibilities decreasing, regrets mounting.
In my next post, I’ll suggest another way of looking at Time which is less anxiety-inducing and more richly life-enhancing.
